A therapeutic boarding school can help manage teens with ADHD

By Staff Writer

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania recently found that although many professionals speculated that medications used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may cause cardiovascular problems, there seems to be no correlation between the two. Therefore, the risk of cardiovascular issues - such as heart attacks, strokes and sudden deaths - should not prevent parents from giving their kids prescriptions to control the disorder, according to the report.

Previous studies indicated that children who take ADHD medications were more prone to high blood pressure than other kids, prompting researchers to investigate the possibility of a connection between cardiovascular problems and the prescriptions.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, some of the medications given to control the symptoms of ADHD are Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse, Dexedrine, Focalin and Daytrana. While these prescriptions are technically stimulants, they are used to calm individuals who have the disorder.

Parents who find that medication is not enough to control the behavior of their teens who have ADHD may want to consider enrolling them in therapeutic schools. The faculty at these institutions are qualified to manage youths who have addiction, mental or behavior issues, Help Starts Here reports.
