A therapeutic boarding school can prevent teens from sexting
By Staff Writer
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy reports that about 21 percent of teen girls and 18 percent of young boys have sent naked or semi-naked pictures of themselves to another person. Similarly, 37 percent of girls and 40 percent of boys said they have sent a sexually suggestive message to someone. Sending sexual pictures or messages to another person is known as "sexting" and it is becoming increasingly popular among teens. Unfortunately, many of these youths mistakenly trust the individual that they send these messages to, which can sometimes land them in a difficult situation. Last month, a mother in Georgia was called to come pick her 17-year-old daughter up from school. Assuming that she was sick, the adult was shocked to hear that naked photos of her daughter, taken when she was 13, had circulated around the private school, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. Students at the Georgia school attended a lecture about child pornography and sexting, but the 17-year-old girl was still forced to face the results of her decision. Parents who want to prevent their teens from participating in acts that can affect their futures may want to research therapeutic schools.
