A therapeutic boarding school may assist autistic students
By Staff Writer
Researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles recently conducted a study in order to discover how to explain autism, as it does not leave any physical marks as it develops in the brain. Studying brains at a molecular level, they found that individuals who have autism have a dramatically different brain structure than healthy people. Daniel Geshwind, principal investigator of the study, found that the cause of each person's autism in unique. However, when analyzing the way in which proteins and genes interact in the brain, researchers found that all autistic individuals have shared patterns. Using this data, Gershwind said he hopes researchers can soon find the origins of autism. According to Autism Speaks, the disorder currently affects one in every 110 children, with boys being more prone to autism than girls. Parents who have an autistic child may want to consider enrolling him or her in a therapeutic boarding school. According to Help Starts Here, these facilities are an appropriate option for children who have mental or behavioral issues.
