A therapeutic school can prevent teens from reacting to family conflicts in dangerous ways
By Staff Writer
Many parents are not aware of how family conflicts can affect their teenage children. According to Communication Institute for Online Scholarship, various studies show that youths who have parents who consistently argue tend to have lower academic scores, bad behavior, destructive tendencies and lower marital satisfaction in the future. Parents may decide to protect their children from seeing family conflicts by enrolling them in a therapeutic school. Faculty members at these programs are trained to help youths deal with the various emotions that can come from seeing past parental arguments. Children who do not get help may act out in dangerous ways. For example, an 18-year old teen in Florida was recently accused of shooting and killing his father in a hotel room after the two got into an argument, the News-Press reports. Brandon Lee Davis is now being charged with second-degree murder. James Davis, who has been charged with domestic battery in the past, was reportedly arguing with his wife, Dana Davis, when their son began to join in the conflict, the news outlet states. Police believe the teen was defending his mother when he allegedly shot his father several times with a semi-automatic gun.
