Child with Asperberg's breaks into local Target
By Staff Writer
An 11-year-old child in New Jersey frequently visits his local Target store to buy DVD's with his parents, the Gloucester County Times reports. Recently, the boy, who suffers from Asperger's syndrome, left his room in the middle of the night to visit the store. Police told the news outlet that he left his home without his parents' knowledge and broke a window to enter Target. He then left without taking anything. The boy's mother saw the video of her son's break-in on the police's YouTube channel and quickly called the authorities to tell them what happened. She told the news source that she was embarrassed, but would cooperate with the police. Target officials said they do not want to press charges. Asperger's syndrome is a developmental disorder and falls under the autism spectrum, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Children who have this disorder often have poor social skills and narrowed interest. Having a normal conversation may be impossible, as they can be inappropriate and eccentric or only willing to talk about one topic. Parents who have children with Asperger's syndrome may want to consider enrolling them in therapeutic schools, which can give them additional academic and social support.
