Drug test kits give kids an option to say no
By Staff Writer
Many adolescents turn to illicit substances as a result of anxiety and peer pressure. However, the local authorities in Carlisle, Arkansas, have made it a goal to let parents know that they can have a positive impact on their child's decision-making. Recently, the Carlisle Police Department discovered a website that offers a free, authentic drug testing tool, according to KHTV. In an effort to help parents keep their children honest, law enforcement officials are now offering the test kit to the community. The goal is not scare kids, but attack the problem before it spirals out of control. Carlisle Police Chief Evan Frank told the news source that the drug test can give kids "an out." If they are offered illicit substances by their friends, they can politely decline and explain that their parents are using the test. High schools across the region are beginning to administer letters to parents, offering information on the kit and its benefits. Elementary and middle schools are instituting drug education programs to explain the dangers of illicit substances to younger children. More than 29 percent of public high school students say they can easily obtain illicit substances, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Drug rehab programs can help kids who have already become dependent on dangerous substances.
