By Staff Writer
Many individuals use illicit substances for recreational purposes, but fail to recognize the negative consequences that come with using drugs. Recently, Crawford County in Ohio held an event to not only educate the public on the dangers of drugs, but recognize those who have lost their lives to addiction. This year, the Night of Hope and Healing event was held at the Victory In Truth Ministries to remember individuals who have died of drugs and acknowledge the substance abuse problem among teens. Dave Montague was one of many parents who attended the event to support the church in its efforts to raise awareness of drug addiction. Surprisingly, Montague told the news source that few churches in the local community work to educate individuals on substance abuse. Addiction in families in common in the region, and local authorities say that drugs typically lead to a heightened level of crime. Bucyrus police chief Ken Teet told the news source that many addicts resort to stealing to maintain their drug habits when they run low on cash. By taking preventative measures and educating the public, fewer individuals may be inclined to turn to illicit substances. Drug addiction costs the U.S. nearly $484 billion every year, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Drug rehab centers can help addicts detoxify and become productive members of society.
