Father advocates for criminalization of K2 after son's death
By Staff Writer
An Indianola, Iowa father recently took a stand against the toxic spice K2 after the drug-related death of his 18-year-old son, according to an article published in the DesMoines Register. The man addressed senators in Washington DC, asking them to institute a ban on the chemically-laced incense. Mike Rozga's son, David, committed suicide after experiencing anxiety and hallucinations allegedly caused by K2, the newspaper reported. Senator Diane Feinstein said that she also supports the criminalization of the drug. "I have been in public office long enough to know that K2, spice and bath salts will not be the last substances that traffickers make available to our youth. We must do all we can to stay ahead of the producers of these dangerous drugs," the news source quoted Feinstein. Researchers from St. Louis University recently investigated the effects of K2. One toxicology expert said that he witnessed more than 30 students who had experienced hallucinations, severe agitation, elevated heart rate and blood pressure, vomiting and, in some cases, tremors and seizures. Teens who struggle with drug abuse may benefit from attending boarding schools for troubled youth, where professionals can promote healthy lifestyles.
