Florida family hosts golf tournament for autism research

By Staff Writer

Many people live with autism in the United States, and experts have yet to develop a cure for the condition. To further research, a number of individuals hold fundraisers to collect money for the cause, and Ted and Sarah Elliot are two of them.

The couple from Florida are the parents of a four-year-old child who has been diagnosed with autism, according to the St. Petersburg Times. In an attempt to raise awareness of the condition and generate funding for autism research, the Elliots have created "The Q Crew." The organization is named after the Elliots' son, Quinn.

This year, the Elliots are hosting a golf tournament to raise money for autism research. A silent auction will be held at the tournament, scheduled for February 20 at the Fox Hollow Golf Club. Individuals who wish to participate will pay a $115 fee to enroll and help donate money to the cause.

Nearly 1 in 80 children suffers from an autism spectrum disorder in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Rehabilitation facilities my be able to help autistic individuals cope with the condition, but further research may be able to eliminate the disease in the future.
