K-2 cigarettes growing in popularity among teens
By Staff Writer
Drug rehab programs can help kids who have developed a dependency to marijuana, but a new substance on the market is growing in popularity and adding to the cases of addiction in children. K-2 cigarettes, which are considered to be synthetic forms of marijuana, have become problematic in many communities across the country. Nebraska is one state that continues to see a rise in K-2 cigarette use, according to KETV. Although a recent ban has been instituted on some of the chemicals found in the synthetic smokes, experts say that not all of the ingredients have been prohibited. As a result, kids are still getting high from these cigarettes and other similar synthetic forms of marijuana. Former school security coordinator, Tami Lang, told the news source that she has seen her fair share of kids negatively affected by K-2 cigarettes. Seizures are a common symptom in kids who have smoked one of the thousands of varieties of synthetic marijuana. Toxicologist Anthony Scalzo says that additional dangerous side effects of smoking K-2 cigarettes include accelerated heart beat and high blood pressure. Drug rehab centers can help kids who are dependent on substances.
