More than 50 teens arrested for underage drinking at Massachusetts party

By Staff Writer

A recent article published in the Attleboro Sun Chronicle highlights the prevalence and consequences of teen drinking and drug use. According to the newspaper, more than 50 Massachusetts high school students were arrested at a "Business Hoes and CEOs" theme party for alleged underage drinking, along with possession of marijuana and suspected ecstasy use.

So far, 13 of the adolescents have been arraigned on the various charges and have been instructed to refrain from drug and alcohol use until the dates of their court hearings, the news provider explained.

Police told the news source that during a search of the party location, they found empty bottles of beer, liquor, drinking game setups, marijuana and a scale, which may have been used to weigh drugs prior to packaging and sale.

A survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration found that nearly 10 percent of teens between the ages of 12 and 17 had used an illicit drug within the previous month. Furthermore, the poll found that more than 2 million youths in this age range had used inhalants to get high at least one time.

Troubled teens programs offered by boarding schools may help prevent adolescents from engaging in dangerous behaviors.
