New novel helps parents manage anxiety in kids

By Staff Writer

Many kids suffer general anxiety prior to taking exams, but stress can take its toll on an individual's health over time. To help children from developing anxiety disorders in adulthood, there are a few steps parents can take to coach their kids through troublesome times, according to the Evansville Courier Press.

Experts say that many parents are unaware of how to help their children with stress. Now, there is a new book that provides anxiety-relieving tips. "Freeing Your Child From Anxiety" by Tamar Chansky was written to help kids tackle their fears leading up to exams. Tips include deep breathing exercises that can calm a child or troubled teen prior to standardized testing.

Anxiety can typically hinder a student's ability to perform at their maximum potential. Experts claim that by tackling stress issues, children may be able to increase their chances of succeeding academically. Guidance counselors and tutoring may also be able to ease a student's anxiety over time.

More than 40 million Americans age 18 and older suffer from an anxiety disorder annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Rehabilitation facilities and counseling can help kids from developing an anxiety condition in adulthood.
