Parents can help their teen by sending them to a troubled youth boarding school for heroin abuse

By Staff Writer

Heroin is an illegal opiate drug that can be injected with a needle, snorted or smoked, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. After taking the drug, users tend to get a euphoric rush, followed by limited mental functioning, a warm feeling on the skin and a dry mouth.

The drug is extremely addictive, as about 23 percent of those use heroin become dependent on it.

Parents who believe that their teens are abusing or selling heroin should find help for them immediately in order to avoid further problems, which can consist of an overdose or arrest. This may include sending youths to troubled teenagers programs where they can receive supervised assistance with their addiction.

An 18-year old teenager from Maryland was recently arrested when police found over $10,000 worth of the illegal drug in his home, ABC News reports. Police were investigating the house for awhile and were recently able to get a search warrant. When they entered the home, authorities said they found more than 40 grams of heroin, over one gram of crack cocaine, almost 5 grams of marijuana and a variety of prescription drugs. The boy was arrested on the scene.
