Parents encouraged to look for signs of ADHD
By Staff Writer
Many kids have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which is a condition that results in a lack of concentration and bouts of energy. However, parents typically do not recognize that a child has the condition until they begin to attend school. Teachers are often the first to notice that a student has trouble focusing for extended periods of time. There are a few signs parents can look for to identify symptoms of ADHD before a child enters grade school, according to FOX25 Morning News. Parents are encouraged to make note of a kid who has difficulty maintaining eye contact or shows extreme implusivity. Experts say that these are some of the most common early signs of ADHD. After a child has been diagnosed with the condition, there are a couple of ways that parents can help reduce the symptoms. Avoiding stimulation, such as television programming and video games, may be able to reduce hyperactivity. A healthy diet and proper vitamins might also be able to curb ADHD symptoms, according to the news source. More than 5 million children have been diagnosed with ADHD as of 2007, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Environmental factors, such as trauma, are not responsible for the development of ADHD in patients. However, managing stimulation can reduce the symptoms of the condition.
