Schools for troubled youths can assist teens with impulse control disorder
By Staff Writer
An Oklahoma teen was recently arrested after he allegedly set off an improvised explosive device in the parking lot of a local mall, Fox News reports. Police said that when they went to the youth's apartment in Tulsa they found a second device as well as products to make more explosives. The FBI was called in order to safely dispose of the devices, the news outlet reports. According to Psych Central, teens who cannot resist the urge to harm themselves or others, which can include setting fires and using explosives, may have impulse control disorder. While scientists do not know for sure what causes impulse control disorders, many speculate that physical, biological, psychological, emotional and cultural factors all play a role in the problem. Some professionals think that it is associated with hormones that cause violence and aggression, such as testosterone. Parents who believe their children are suffering from impulse control disorder may want to research schools for troubled youths. According to Help Starts Here, these institutions can be effective in assisting with a variety of teen issues, including mental health disorders, substance abuse and behavioral problems.
