Teen arrested on drug charges after accidentally calling 911

By Staff Writer

An 18-year-old boy in Georgia was recently arrested when he accidentally called 911 while sitting in a Waffle House, USA Today reports. The dispatcher reportedly heard the teen talking about a drug sale and alerted authorities immediately.

When a deputy arrived at the Waffle House, he said that the teen had Hydrocodone and Xanax. The boy was arrested and taken to jail, the news outlet reports.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Xanax falls into a class of medications known as Alphrazolam. These drugs are used to treat panic attacks, depression and anxiety disorders by reducing unnatural levels of excitement in the brain. Alphrazolam can cause side effects such as headaches, drowsiness, talkativeness and dizziness.

Alphrazolam, including Xanax, is one of the most commonly abused prescription medications, along with drugs such as Vicodin, OxyContin, Lomotil and Adderall, the National Institute on Drug Abuse reports.

Parents who believe that their children are abusing prescription medications may want to consider enrolling them in schools for troubled youths. According to Help Starts Here, these institutions are a suitable option for young adults who have addiction issues.
