Teen sex may lead to higher chance of getting a divorce in the future
By Staff Writer
Many individuals know that teens who are sexually active may face dangerous consequences. These youths may be more prone to sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy and shattered reputations. However, a recent study by researchers from the University of Iowa shows that girls who have sex when they are young may also be more prone to getting divorced later in life. The study, which was published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, found that about 31 percent of girls who were sexually active as teens were divorced within five years of their marriage. An additional 47 percent were divorced within 10 years. Women who decided to wait until they were adults to have sex had a far lower divorce rate, which was equal to about 15 percent after five years and 27 percent after 10 years. Researchers said that this information should be used as another disadvantage of teen sexuality. Parents who are worried that their daughter is participating in risky sexual behavior may want to consider the option of enrolling her in a therapeutic boarding school.
