Therapeutic boarding schools can assist students who have cocaine addictions

By Staff Writer

An 18-year old Arizona teen was recently given a one-year sentence for participating in a cocaine trafficking ring, The Star Phoenix reports. The drug ring bought an estimated $37,000 of the drug every month and the teen reportedly sold two ounces of cocaine daily.

The youth now says that he intends to finish his sentence and be a positive role model for his son that was recently born. He also plans to get his high school diploma and find a job. He only regrets that it took his arrest to get him back on the right track, the news outlet reports.

If parents believe that their children are involved in abusing or selling cocaine, they should get them help immediately.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, cocaine is an extremely addictive stimulant. In its powdered form it is typically snorted or injected. Teens who abuse cocaine put themselves at risk for constricted blood vessels and dilated pupils as well as increased body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. It can also lead to nausea, stomach pain, decreased appetite and headaches.

For young addicts, therapeutic boarding schools may be able to help them end their substance abuse problem.
