Therapeutic boarding schools can help teens who have depression

By Staff Writer

A psychiatric professional recently told the Ledger-Dispatch that while many parents believe their children are simply moody during their teenage years, they should be on the lookout for what might actually be depression.

This professional states that depression becomes a clinical problem when emotions begin to interfere in a teenager's life. While parents may believe that it is just another phase that the youth will grow out of, the psychiatrist told the news outlet that it can be a serious problem and that these children need help.

Parents may notice signs in their children such as low self-esteem, guilt, frequent sadness, hopelessness, boredom, increased anger or sensitivity to failure. Any of these symptoms should prompt parents to get their teenagers assistance.

As depression tends to run in families, parents should be particularly cautious about monitoring their teens if this disorder is common among relatives.

According to Help Starts Here, there are a number of ways that parents can help their troubled youth. For example, they may enroll their child in a therapeutic boarding school. The organization states that these programs can help students with mental health issues like depression while also giving them additional academic support.
