Therapeutic schools can prevent the troubles associated with teen pregnancy
By Staff Writer
According to the most recent data from the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, about 71 out of every 1,000 teens will have a baby during their youth. For these young women, this could mean drastic consequences. The campaign reports that only 40 percent of teen mothers finish high school. Largely due to their lack of education, youths who have their first child at age 17 or younger earn less than $7,000 per year and usually require federal assistance. Bristol Palin, the daughter of politician Sarah Palin, recently told CBS News how difficult it can be for teenager mothers. The 20-year-old said that in her own life, it is her two-year-old son that has largely had to deal with the consequences of her mistake. The young child will grow up in a single-parent family with a mother who has not received a college education and has difficulty holding a steady job, she said. Parents who want to prevent their teenage daughters from finding themselves in similar situations should consider enrolling them in therapeutic schools. Many of these programs can help students get back on the right track mentally, emotionally and academically.
