Therapeutic schools can provide assistance to narcissistic teens
By Staff Writer
Psychologists from Washington University in Missouri recently conducted a study in order to see how narcissists view themselves and others, the Huffington Post reports. According to Psych Central, individuals who have narcissism tend to be overly absorbed in themselves, beyond a level that most professionals consider to be normal. These people frequently put themselves before others to such a degree that they must eventually live in isolation. Washington University professionals found that narcissists are actually confident in themselves and are not trying to hide behind what some people speculate is depression. Many of the individuals who were studied thought they were more attractive, likable and intelligent than others. They also saw themselves as being arrogant, power-hungry and prone to exaggeration, suggesting that narcissists know that they have the disorder. However, other participants who studied the narcissists did not view these individuals in the same positive way. Many bystanders found them to be less attractive, likable and intelligent than the narcissists predicted themselves to be, according to the news outlet. If parents want their children to receive help for their narcissism, they can consider sending them to therapeutic schools.
