Therapeutic schools may ensure autistic children get more care

By Staff Writer

Autism is a developmental disorder that typically appears before a child is three-years-old, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. These kids display symptoms such as difficulty maintaining a conversation, slow language development, temper tantrums, trouble with social interactions and narrow interests.

As some of these symptoms can be difficult to handle, many autistic children need more care than public school officials can typically manage.

For example, a three-year-old boy was accidentally left on a Michigan school bus between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the Kalamazoo Gazette. The autistic boy's mother put him on the bus that morning and he simply never got off when he arrived at school.

The student's mother contacted the preschool when her son did not come home on time. School officials later found him sitting on the bus with his seatbelt on, according to the news provider.

Parents who want to ensure that their children receive more care and attention than some public schools provide may want to consider enrolling their youths in therapeutic schools.
