Therapeutic schools may prevent future damage from gaming addictions

By Staff Writer

According to the Pew Research Center, about 97 percent of teens say they play console, Internet, computer or portable video games. This may cause some parents to worry that playing too many video games will lead to poor exercise habits or lower grades in school, but they may also want to be concerned with what a future addiction will do for their children.

A recent study by Divorce Online shows that of the wives who cite unreasonable behavior as the reason for ending their marriage, 15 percent said their husbands put video games before them, the Daily Mail reports. This is a vast increase from the 5 percent of women who reported this cause for divorce last year.

Mark Keenan, managing director of Divorce Online, told the news outlet that there could have been many reasons for this increase. For example, he speculates that people tend to stay inside more during a troubled economy and therefore may turn to video games instead of more expensive activities.

Parents who do not want their children's video game addictions to cause trouble in their futures may want to consider enrolling them in therapeutic schools.
