Troubled teenagers programs can curb youth ecstasy abuse
By Staff Writer
A 13-year-old boy was recently arrested after police received a tip from a resource officer that the youth had brought drugs to his Florida middle school, the News-Press reports. When authorities searched the student they reportedly found almost seven grams of a white powder, which they later found out was ecstasy. The teen is being charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance. If parents believe that their children are using ecstasy, they should get them help immediately, as the substance can be very dangerous and sometimes lethal, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Ecstasy, or MDMA, is a synthetic drug that creates increased euphoria, additional energy and emotional warmth as well as distortions in perception, tactile experiences and time. Teens typically take this substance as a capsule or a pill. Youths who are abusing ecstasy and other illegal drugs can get help by attending schools for troubled youths. According to Help Starts Here, these programs can assist teens who have mental health issues, substance abuse problems or behavioral issues.
