UK dad creates a Facebook program that detects cyber bullying

By Staff Writer

Paddy Clarke, a 48-year-old father of four from the UK recently developed the first bullying alert system for Facebook, according to an article published in the Daily Mail.

The subscription-based software, called Know Diss, automatically scans a child's Facebook wall and inbox for common abusive phrases such as 'fat' or 'gay,' and sends an alert message to the parent or guardian, which allows them to view the statement in question, the newspaper explained.

"Bullying has now gone from the playground into children's homes. Kids feel safe sending an abusive message in their rooms. It is pretty awful," Clarke told the news provider.

The creator also told the news source that kids may not object to having their parents install the program, since adults only have access to the flagged content, as opposed to the entirety of their Facebook pages.

According to an i-SAFE America survey, more than 40 percent of children have experience cyber bullying and 25 percent have been repeatedly harassed online.

Kids who struggle academically because they do not feel comfortable in school may benefit from attending boarding schools, which can provide a safe and nurturing learning environment.
